Sam
Marcellini began his training at the age of five in
“kyokushin kai”
- a highly disciplined, full contact style of karate that is rarely
found in the United States. This rigorous and true-to-life training
became the groundwork upon which he built his future vision,
culminating into a more serious and effective approach to martial
arts.
Sam later trained with Grandmaster Gene Brigham, a traditional and
spiritual instructor. Sam became Grandmaster’s “highest ranking”
student. Without question, some of the greatest teachings the
Grandmaster passed on were the spiritual and philosophical side of
martial arts. These elements are often neglected altogether by
today’s martial arts instructors. This knowledge complemented
and provided a balance that gives Sam a definite advantage as an
instructor and martial artist.
Sam went on to train with Royce Gracie, a legendary UFC
Champion. Sam trained with Royce for 15 years and was Royce’s
sparring partner for his fight preparations and still continues to
train with Royce. For over 25 years, Royce Gracie has lived in Los
Angeles and has taught over 20,000 students. Sam Marcellini is one
of only three that has achieved the coveted Royce Gracie black belt
in California. Sam also studied under Royce Gracie’s father,
Grandmaster Helio Gracie, who developed Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu which is
highly respected throughout the world today. In addition Sam trained
a great deal with Royler Gracie, Rodrigo Gracie and Rener Gracie.
Sam Marcellini also has been spending a lot of time training with Rob Kaman, Nine time world Thai Boxing Champion. He was the very first to become a certified instructor under Rob Kaman in the U.S. Sam also trained with Rico Chiapparelli, World Free-Style Wrestling Champion and a trainer and coach of Randy Couture (a five-time UFC Champion).
Indeed, Sam Marcellini is one of the world’s most well-rounded instructors, a high-level martial artist who has truly been trained by legends in the martial arts. With more than twenty-five years of experience in martial arts and five respected black belts, Sam has helped in developing many champions. His knowledge and instructional ability make him one of the most sought-after instructors. In addition to his many great accomplishments Sam is an undefeated professional mixed martial arts competitor and has also been inducted into the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame as Instructor of the Year for his unique curriculums and his ability to give the gift of self-defense to anyone regardless of their age or athletic ability. Sam has dedicated his life to impacting others in a positive manner through the medium of martial arts.
